“Slichot” Prayers in Jerusalem

When the High Holy Days in Judaism approach, the streets of Jerusalem resound with the “Slichot” prayers. These prayers, comprised of a combination of medieval liturgy and Aramaic verse, are viewed as a preparation for Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, which is also considered a day of judgment. In the Slichot prayers, Jews prepare for the New Year by confessing to their sins so that the slate will already be wiped clean by the time the New Year arrives.
